Over 50 local youth becoming Agents of Change for Mental Health
(St. Catharines, ON) November 15 – Over 50 youth from across Niagara gathered at Pathstone Mental Health’s headquarters in St. Catharines for a full day of idea exchanging, brainstorming and future building at the “Youth Engagement: Becoming Agents of Change” conference.
The mostly teens in attendance representing youth groups including mayor’s youth advisory committees, are influencers in the community and are mental health champions.
Break-out sessions provided the opportunity to make recommendations about how mental health organizations can better their environment, programs and services as well as identify what the needs are and what services and programs may be missing.
This day-long conference funded through a generous grant from RBC provided youth with the opportunity to connect with others who are passionate about youth mental health.
The desired outcome was to provide a fulsome list of recommendations that can be put into action.
“I wouldn’t be at all surprised if many of the actionable items that will come out of the conference will make their way into Pathstone’s strategic plan.” Pathstone Mental Health CEO, Shaun Baylis
A brief is now being compiled by the New Mentality group, which is a youth led team with a provincial mandate to better children’s mental health services.
